Lagos & Sagres · 1h from FAO
The west coast
The dramatic end. Cliffs, coves and the wildest beaches, plus the surf coast around Sagres where the Algarve turns the corner into the Atlantic proper.
- Lagos
- A walled old town, a marina and the cliff beaches within walking distance. The best all-round base in the west.
- Praia da Luz
- Small, quiet, low-rise and long-established with British visitors. Gentle.
- Carvoeiro
- A cove village that grew into a resort. Steep, pretty, and short on flat ground.
- Sagres
- The far south-west corner. Surf, cliffs and wind — a different holiday altogether.
