Laganas is the party strip. Twenty minutes away, almost nothing happens.
Laganas has a reputation, and it's earned — it's a long strip of bars aimed at a young crowd. But Zante is bigger than that. The west coast has sheer cliffs and sea caves, the north around Agios Nikolaos and Alykes is quiet and family-focused, and the interior is farmland and hill villages. The turtles that nest on Laganas bay are why parts of the coast are a protected marine park, with restrictions on boats and beach access at night.

A rusting freighter on white sand between 200m cliffs. Reachable only by boat, and the clifftop viewpoint has had access restrictions — we'll confirm what's open.
Sea caves on the northern tip where the water glows. Small boats go inside; the big ones don't.
Laganas Bay is a protected nesting site. Go with a licensed operator that keeps its distance — several don't.
The south-west corner, with arches and swim-throughs. Quieter than the northern boat trips.
Rebuilt after the 1953 earthquake, with a Venetian-style square and a hilltop castle above it.
Natural sulphur springs seeping into the sea. Smells faintly of eggs and the water is cold — and people swear by it.

Long sandy beach, and a nightlife strip aimed at a young crowd. Book deliberately.
Sandy, shallow and well-equipped, ten minutes from town. The usual family choice.
Calm water, low-rise, and a slower pace. Good for couples and older families.
Boats to the Blue Caves and Navagio leave from here. Very little else, which is the point.
May to October, and June and September are the best of it.
July and August are hot, busy and expensive, and Laganas is at its loudest. May, June and September give warm sea, 26–29°C days and far fewer people. Turtle nesting runs roughly June to August with hatching into September, which is worth knowing whichever way you feel about it. April and late October are quiet and carry a real chance of rain.
3h 30m to Zakynthos (ZTH), seasonal from most UK airports between May and October.
15–40 minutes to most resorts. It's a small island.

Navagio and the Blue Caves are both boat-only. Smaller boats get inside the caves; the large ones cruise past.
