Bodrum town itself has the castle, the marina and the nightlife. But most hotels are spread around the peninsula — Yalıkavak is the smart yachting end, Türkbükü is where Istanbul money summers, Gümbet is the young party bay, and Torba and Bitez are quiet family choices. They're twenty to forty minutes apart on winding roads. This is the one thing to get right, and it's the one thing brochures blur.

July and August reach 33–35°C and the peninsula fills, especially with Turkish holidaymakers in August. May, June, September and early October give 25–30°C, a sea warm from June, and far more space. Winter is very quiet with most resorts closed.

Bodrum is smarter, quieter and more expensive. Marmaris is bigger, louder and better value. Both have calm family bays away from the strip.
Mostly shingle or hotel platforms into deep water. Excellent swimming, less good for sandcastles.
Bitez, Torba and Gümüşlük are calm and shallow. Avoid Gümbet, and check the transfer time from the airport.
