The biggest Canary island, with the widest choice of hotels and the only one with a 3,700-metre volcano in the middle. It also has two genuinely different climates, which catches people out.
Teide is high enough to stop the weather crossing, so the north and south get different days.
The south — Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas — is dry, sunny and where almost every package hotel sits. The north, around Puerto de la Cruz, is greener, cooler and noticeably cloudier, because the trade winds hit it and stop at the mountain. Neither is wrong, but if you've booked winter sun and ended up in the north you'll wonder where it went. Nearly all winter-sun bookings should be in the south.

January and February sit at 21–22°C in the south with sea around 19°C — the warmest short-haul option in Europe. Summer reaches 28–29°C and is busy with Spanish and British holidaymakers. Spring and autumn are the value windows. The north runs two or three degrees cooler and considerably cloudier year-round.
Tenerife South (TFS) for the resorts, 20–40 minutes to most hotels. Tenerife North (TFN) is an hour away.
