Vegas is three nights. The reason to fly all that way is what's beyond it.
Most people book New York and Las Vegas and come home having walked two Strips. But Zion is two and a half hours from Vegas, Bryce four, and the Grand Canyon's south rim four and a half — the best landscape in the United States, and a hire car away. Four nights in New York, three on the Strip, then five with a car in the parks makes this a genuinely varied trip rather than a long-haul city break twice over.

1Four nights, because the outbound time difference gives you a real half-day on arrival.
Where you stay: Midtown for a first visit, or Lower East Side for better food and a shorter walk to downtown.
Getting there: 7h 30m direct, landing early afternoon.
2Three nights on the Strip. Enough for the hotels, a show and one great dinner, before it starts to wear.
Where you stay: Mid-Strip for walkability, or downtown for value and character.
Getting there: 5h 30m internal flight from New York.
3Two and a half hours from Vegas, and the reason the trip is worth the flight.
Where you stay: Springdale at Zion's gate, then Bryce Canyon City. Both small and both book out early.
Getting there: Two and a half hours by hire car from Las Vegas.
4South rim, and an overnight rather than a day trip. Sunrise and sunset there are different things entirely.
Where you stay: Inside the park if you book far enough ahead, or Tusayan just outside.
Getting there: About four hours from Bryce, then four and a half back to Vegas.

The parks are where booking early matters more than budget — in-park lodges at the Grand Canyon and Zion sell out a year ahead at any price. Las Vegas is the opposite: rates swing wildly by day of the week, and a Sunday-to-Wednesday stay can cost a third of a weekend one.
April to May and September to October. Summer is dangerously hot in the desert.
Spring and autumn suit all three legs — New York is comfortable, Vegas is warm rather than brutal, and the parks are open with manageable temperatures. Summer exceeds 40°C in the Mojave and hiking becomes a genuine risk. Winter brings snow to Bryce at 2,400m and closes some Grand Canyon roads, though New York in December has its own appeal.

No — American highways, long straight distances and easy navigation. Vegas to Zion is two and a half hours on good roads.
It works, and it adds a week. Vegas to Los Angeles is four hours by road or an hour by air. Ask us and we'll price it.
