English is very widely spoken, the roads are good, and nothing about it is difficult.
It's also considerably cheaper than Thailand for a similar standard, and Langkawi is duty-free by law, which puts drink and hotel bills below anything comparable in the region. The three-centre shape works because each leg is genuinely different: Kuala Lumpur is towers and food courts, Langkawi is rainforest running down to sand, and Penang's George Town is a UNESCO shophouse quarter where people fly in specifically to eat.

1Three nights is right — enough for the towers, the caves and two great meals, before the city's heat and traffic start to wear.
Where you stay: KLCC for the towers and the mall, or Bukit Bintang for restaurants and nightlife on foot.
Getting there: 13 hours direct, or with a Gulf stopover which many people prefer.
2Ninety-nine islands in the Andaman Sea, duty-free by law, with rainforest older than the Amazon behind the beach.
Where you stay: Pantai Cenang for the main strip, Pantai Tengah for quieter and smarter, Datai Bay for the best hotels on the island.
Getting there: 1 hour from Kuala Lumpur, several flights daily.
3George Town's UNESCO old town, and food that justifies the trip on its own.
Where you stay: A restored shophouse in the George Town heritage zone, or Batu Ferringhi if you want a beach as well.
Getting there: 1 hour by air from Langkawi, or a fast ferry in season.

Malaysia gives you noticeably more hotel per pound than Thailand or Singapore. Langkawi's duty-free status also means drink bills are a fraction of the regional norm, which adds up over six nights.
Langkawi and Penang sit on the Andaman side, so the season follows Phuket rather than Malaysia's east coast.
December to March is dry and settled across all three legs, and it's the window we'd book. May to October brings the south-west monsoon — heavy afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain, with prices dropping sharply. Worth knowing: Malaysia's east coast islands, the Perhentians and Tioman, run the opposite pattern, which occasionally helps if your dates won't move.

It's about right for three centres. If you have ten, we'd cut Penang to two nights rather than shortening Langkawi.
Easily — it's an hour from KL and a natural fourth stop. Ask us for that version; open-jaw home from Singapore works well.
Cheaper, quieter and duty-free, with better rainforest. Thailand has more choice of beach and more nightlife. We'd match it to what you want.
If you care about food, yes — it's one of the great eating cities in Asia. If you don't, three is plenty and you'd add the night to Langkawi.
