Two and a half hours apart, and about as different as two places on one continent get. Singapore is spotless, easy and English-speaking; Bali is temples, rice terraces and surf. The gentlest possible introduction to multi-centre travel.
If you've never done a multi-centre and you're nervous about it, this is the route to start with.
Singapore is the least intimidating city in Asia — everyone speaks English, the MRT is immaculate, the tap water is drinkable and nothing is complicated. It's a soft landing after a thirteen-hour flight. Then a short hop puts you somewhere completely different, with a culture that's genuinely foreign and a beach at the end of it. The internal flight is under three hours and runs many times a day.
Twelve nights. One long flight out, a short hop in the middle, and a direct or one-stop flight home from Denpasar.
1Four nights rather than three, because Singapore rewards it and because it's where your body clock resets.
Where you stay: Marina Bay for the icon and the pool, Chinatown or Kampong Glam for character and better value.
Getting there: 13 hours direct from London, or with one stop. Arrives afternoon or evening local time.
2Eight nights lets you split the island rather than sitting in one resort — which is what makes a Bali trip memorable.
Where you stay: We usually split it — a jungle villa in Ubud, then a beach hotel in the south. Ask us and we'll price it as one or two hotels.
Getting there: 2h 45m Singapore to Denpasar, several flights daily.
Everything below is quoted up front. Nothing appears after you've paid a deposit.
Guide prices per person, two sharing, outside school holidays. The hotel standard is the biggest single variable.
| Standard | What that means | Guide price pp |
|---|---|---|
| 4-star | Good central Singapore hotel, four-star Bali hotels in both locations | £1,749 |
| 4-star plus | Marina Bay area, private-pool villa in Ubud, beachfront in the south | £2,299 |
| 5-star | Marina Bay Sands or equivalent, luxury villas both ends | £3,299 |
Singapore is the expensive half — hotel rates there are close to London's, while Bali is remarkably cheap for what you get. If the budget is tight, trim Singapore to three nights rather than downgrading Bali. Private-pool villas in Ubud are the single best value upgrade on this route.
Bali's dry season runs April to October, and Singapore is hot and humid all year with rain that comes in short bursts.
May, June and September are the sweet spots — Bali is dry, the crowds are thinner than July and August, and prices are below peak. July and August are Bali's busiest months with Australian and European school holidays overlapping. November to March is the wet season: it doesn't rain all day, but it rains hard most days and the sea can be murky on the south coast.
We'll come back with hotel options at both ends, the Ubud-and-coast split priced properly, and the payment plan written out in full.
We'd recommend it. Ubud and the south coast are completely different, an hour and a half apart, and doing both is what makes people say the trip was special rather than nice.
Yes, and it's also where you recover from the flight. Three works if the budget is tight, but you'll be rushing the hawker centres and the gardens.
Easily — they're short hops from Singapore. Ask us and we'll price a three-centre version.
A per-person charge payable on arrival, introduced to fund conservation. It isn't in the package price and we'll tell you the current amount before you travel.
